EFS X-Treme rear shock absorber for a 5 inch lift on the Toyota Land Cruiser 80 and 105. It measures 665 x 400 mm with pin-to-eye mounting and uses a 45 mm bore twin-tube build with DMC valving and an internal hydraulic bump stop. Five-year warranty with no mileage limit.

EFS X-Treme Rear Shock Absorber, 5" Lift — Toyota Land Cruiser 80 and 105

The rear axle of a lifted 80 Series has real articulation potential — as long as the damper does not get in the way. Too short a shock caps the travel and lifts the wheel off the ground exactly when you need it planted.

This is the X-Treme rear shock matched to a 125 mm lift on the Land Cruiser 80 and 105, with the length and damping worked out for a loaded, seriously raised vehicle.

Key benefits

  • Length matched to a 125 mm lift — the rear axle uses its full range instead of hanging on the shock.
  • The 665 x 400 mm dimension and pin-to-eye mounting are stated outright, so matching it to your kit is simple.
  • A 64 mm outer body holds a lot of oil, and more oil heats up more slowly — damping stays honest over a long, punishing stage.
  • Twin-tube construction with a 45 mm bore, the largest in the EFS range — more working area means calmer valve behaviour under load.
  • A hardened 20 mm chrome piston rod copes with the side loads that finish off thinner rods off-road.
  • Inner and outer wall thickness of 2 mm gives you reserve strength under a loaded vehicle on bigger tyres.
  • A low-pressure nitrogen charge limits cavitation — the oil foaming that makes a damper give up mid-stage.
  • An internal hydraulic bump stop slows the piston at the end of its travel instead of letting metal hit metal.
  • Iron piston rings and multi-lip seals — exactly the parts that fail first in budget dampers.
  • DMC-T valving picks the damping curve in a fraction of a second, so one shock works on tarmac and on gravel.

The X-Treme range was born out of the Australian competition and touring scene — long gravel stages, corrugations and a loaded vehicle that keeps the damper working for hours on end. It is the HD version, built for heavy loads and larger tyres, and still perfectly civilised on sealed roads.

For an 80 or 105 on a 5 inch lift that carries gear, tows and runs off-road on big tyres. The rear axle works hardest on a vehicle like that, so this is where an HD build pays for itself soonest.

Fitting notes

The shock is intended for a 125 mm lift — with a lower lift, choose a shorter part number. The manufacturer states a required quantity of 2 per axle — here you are buying a single unit. Selection, fitting and setup can be left to our workshop; building lift kits for 4x4s and pickups is our daily work.

Five-year warranty with no mileage limit (as stated on the distributor listing for this part number).

Why it is worth it

  • A length worked out for a 5 inch lift, not a compromise off the universal shelf.
  • The X-Treme build with a hydraulic bump stop and 2 mm walls for heavy duty use.
  • A natural pair for the front 39-7005 on the same vehicle.

Putting together a 125 mm suspension for an 80 Series — add a pair for the rear and that axle is done.
