EFS MRP 2.5 Rear Shock Absorber — Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 2011-2017
Rear EFS MRP 2.5 shock absorber: monotube build, remote reservoir with a finned heat sink, 24 clicks of compression and up to 36 clicks of rebound adjustment. EFS MRP 2.5 Rear Shock Absorber — Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 2011-2017
The WK2 rides well until you add a bumper, a winch and a week of luggage — then the rear starts sagging and bouncing. The MRP 2.5 rear unit brings that movement back under control instead of just making the car stiffer.
A rear shock with a remote reservoir, listed by the distributor for a 50 mm lift. Before ordering, check which suspension your car has — not every WK2 version is compatible.
Position Rear shock absorber | Lift 50 mm | Adjustment 24 compression / up to 36 rebound |
Key benefits
- Monotube design leaves room for a thicker shaft, which keeps the suspension composed when you hit washboard at speed.
- Remote reservoir with a finned heat sink gives the oil more volume and a way to shed heat, so damping does not fade a few kilometres into a gravel stage.
- Compression damping is adjustable over 24 clicks from a single knob — firmer for the highway, softer for crawling.
- Rebound damping offers up to 36 clicks, so you decide how quickly the wheel returns to the ground.
- Fully rebuildable and serviceable — at the end of a hard season it goes on the bench, not in the bin.

Who it is for
This shock earns its price if you drive Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 built between 04.2011 and 02.2017 and the vehicle works where a standard damper simply overheats: long gravel stages, loaded touring, overland trips, regular towing or a permanently heavy build. If your car mostly sees tarmac and only occasional trails, the money spent on an adjustable remote-reservoir shock will not come back to you.
EFS states the shock is not suitable for models fitted with Quadra-Lift suspension or with 63 mm OD Nivomat rear shocks.
Fitting and notes
These are sold individually, so a full axle set means two units. Fitting is a standard shock swap, but the remote reservoir also has to be routed and clamped somewhere it will not foul suspension, exhaust or lines. Our off-road workshop at Szekla4x4 can handle the selection, the fitting and a first damping setup if you would rather have it sorted in one go.
Where to start with the clickers
EFS publishes starting points for both adjusters. Compression (24 clicks): 0-10 for sealed roads, 10-20 off-road, 15-24 for hard driving. Rebound (36 clicks): 0-12 around town, 12-22 off-road, 22-36 in extreme conditions. Turning clockwise (marked H+) adds damping, counter-clockwise (S-) takes it away. Treat those as a baseline — vehicle weight, tyres and driving style shift the sweet spot, so change a few clicks at a time.
Warranty and registration
The distributor states a 2-year or 100,000 km warranty that can be extended to a total of six years. You need to register the shock with EFS after purchase (the QR code and form are in the fitting instructions in the box) and have it serviced: the first service before 2 years or 100,000 km adds another 2 years and 50,000 km, a second service before the next 2 years or 50,000 km adds the same again. Every service has to be reported to the manufacturer.
Why it is worth it
- You set the damping yourself with two independent adjusters — an empty vehicle and a fully loaded one are two settings, not two sets of shocks.
- The reservoir and heat sink push back the point where the oil overheats and damping starts to fade.
- Because it comes apart, years later you send it in for a rebuild instead of buying a new set.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the price for one shock or a pair?
The price is per unit. EFS lists two units as required per axle, so order two if you are replacing a full axle set.
Does it fit a Grand Cherokee with Quadra-Lift suspension?
No. EFS states clearly that this shock is not suitable for models fitted with Quadra-Lift suspension or with 63 mm OD Nivomat rear shocks.
What lift height is this shock designed for?
A 50 mm lift. That figure comes straight from the product data, so if your vehicle sits at a different height it is worth checking the correct part number first.
What is the difference between the compression and rebound adjusters?
Compression (24 clicks) controls how the shock resists being compressed, so how firmly the vehicle enters a bump. Rebound (up to 36 clicks) controls how quickly the wheel returns to the ground. EFS suggests starting points: compression 0-10 clicks on sealed roads, 10-20 off-road, 15-24 for hard driving; rebound 0-12, 12-22 and 22-36 respectively.
Can the shock be rebuilt later?
Yes — the MRP 2.5 range is fully rebuildable and serviceable, and servicing is also what extends the warranty.
What warranty applies and how is it extended?
The distributor states 2 years or 100,000 km. Registering the shock with EFS and having it serviced before that point adds another 2 years and 50,000 km, and a second service adds the same again — up to six years in total. Each service must be reported to the manufacturer.
