Heavy-duty front left shock absorber from the EFS MRP 2.5 series with a remote reservoir and heat sink. It gives 40 or 70 mm of lift on the Toyota Hilux Revo and 40 mm on the Fortuner, with 24 compression and 36 rebound settings and a rating for an extra 50-110 kg.

EFS MRP 2.5 Front Left Shock, +40-70 mm — Toyota Hilux Revo, Fortuner

On a Hilux built for touring the limitation is rarely power. It is the front suspension, which runs out of travel once a bar, a winch and a full rack are on board, and gives back less and less damping after an hour of corrugations. The MRP 2.5 is aimed straight at that scenario.

This is the heavy-duty front left shock absorber, with a remote reservoir and heat sink and two independent damping adjustments. Depending on the model it delivers 40 to 70 mm of lift.

Key benefits

  • Two lift options on the Hilux Revo — 40 mm or 70 mm — so height can be matched to tyre size and how the truck is used.
  • Rated for an additional 50-110 kg, which is what front-axle hardware on a touring build actually weighs.
  • 24 compression settings: one for rocks, another for fast gravel, with nothing to disassemble.
  • 36 rebound settings decide how quickly the wheel returns to the surface, which is where traction on corrugations comes from.
  • The remote reservoir with heat sink stabilises oil temperature, and with it the damping curve over a whole stage.
  • Mono-tube construction allowed a thicker shaft — more stiffness and less sensitivity to side loads.
  • Being fully strippable means a hard season ends in a rebuild, not in the bin.

It is for Hiluxes and Fortuners that do more than commuting: expeditions, work off the tarmac, driving with a heavy front bar. If the vehicle mostly stays on sealed roads and carries nothing, neither the adjustment nor the cooling will ever come into play.

Fitting notes

An alignment is required once ride height changes. Replace shocks in pairs — a new unit on one side and a worn one on the other makes the truck behave asymmetrically over bumps. Our workshop builds off-road and overland suspension daily and can handle fitting and setup.

Warranty and registration

The distributor states 2 years or 100,000 km of warranty, extendable to 6 years in total. You have to register the shock absorber with the manufacturer after purchase (QR code in the fitting instructions in the box) and keep it serviced: the first service before 2 years and 100,000 km adds another 2 years and 50,000 km, and a second service within that period adds the same again. Every service has to be reported to the manufacturer.

Why it is worth it

  • Two separate damping adjustments — one shock for very different uses.
  • Reservoir cooling is the condition for consistent behaviour over a long stage.
  • A serviceable design and warranty extendable to 6 years once the conditions are met.

Take the right-hand side with it if you are rebuilding the whole front — suspension works in pairs.

Frequently asked questions

How much lift does it give?

On the Toyota Hilux Revo (from 08.2015) the page lists 40 mm and 70 mm variants, and on the Toyota Fortuner (from 2004) 40 mm.

Is 25-0004-L the left-hand side?

Yes. The right side has its own part number, 25-0004-R, and a complete axle takes two units.

What load is it rated for?

The distributor lists an additional 50-110 kg for both models.

What does the remote reservoir do?

It adds oil volume and cooling area, so damping does not weaken as temperature climbs on long rough stages.

Can it be rebuilt?

Yes, it is fully strippable and serviceable — and regular servicing is the condition for extending the warranty beyond 2 years or 100,000 km.
