Heavy-duty front shock absorber from the EFS MRP 2.5 series with a remote reservoir and heat sink. It gives 50 mm of lift on the Ford Ranger PX3 and 40 mm on the Ford Everest UA, offers 24 compression and 36 rebound settings and is rated for an extra 50-110 kg. Mono-tube and fully rebuildable.

EFS MRP 2.5 Front Shock Absorber, +40-50 mm — Ford Ranger PX3, Everest UA

Once a Ranger carries a bar, a winch and a rack, it stops behaving the way it did in the showroom: the nose dives under braking, and on corrugations the standard damper stops keeping up after half an hour. The MRP 2.5 answers both problems — more height, and oil that has somewhere to dump its heat.

This is a heavy-duty front shock from the MRP 2.5 series with an additional reservoir and heat sink. Compression adjusts across 24 settings, rebound across 36, and the vehicle gains 40 or 50 mm depending on the model.

Key benefits

  • 50 mm of lift on the Ranger PX3 and 40 mm on the Everest UA — a specific figure per model rather than "about two inches".
  • Rated for an additional 50-110 kg, which is the usual package: bar, winch, protection and gear.
  • 24 compression settings let you soften the truck for rocks and firm it up for fast gravel without changing a part.
  • 36 rebound settings control how quickly the wheel returns to the surface, which is what traction on corrugations depends on.
  • The reservoir and heat sink stabilise oil temperature, and stable temperature means damping you can rely on for a whole stage.
  • Mono-tube construction allowed a thicker shaft, which adds stiffness and precision.
  • The shock is fully strippable, so it gets rebuilt after a hard season instead of replaced.

It suits Rangers and Everests prepared for longer trips: canopies, gear and real weight over the front axle. If the vehicle mostly sees tarmac, the adjustment and the cooling will never be used — this shock starts to make sense where stages are measured in hours rather than kilometres.

Fitting notes

Set the alignment after the ride height changes. Dial the clickers in after a few hundred kilometres with the vehicle loaded the way it will actually travel — only then can you tell whether you need more compression or slower rebound. Our workshop can handle fitting and setup.

Warranty and registration

The distributor states 2 years or 100,000 km of warranty, extendable to 6 years in total. You have to register the shock absorber with the manufacturer after purchase (QR code in the fitting instructions in the box) and keep it serviced: the first service before 2 years and 100,000 km adds another 2 years and 50,000 km, and a second service within that period adds the same again. Every service has to be reported to the manufacturer.

Why it is worth it

  • Two independent adjustment axes — one shock covers very different driving scenarios.
  • Reservoir cooling is what keeps damping repeatable over long stages.
  • A rebuildable design and a warranty extendable to 6 years make this a long-term purchase.

If you are preparing a Ranger or Everest for longer trips, plan for the whole axle — a single shock changes less than it could.

Frequently asked questions

How much lift does it give?

It depends on the vehicle: 50 mm on the Ford Ranger PX3 (07.2018-2022) and 40 mm on the Ford Everest UA (2015-06.2018).

What do the 24 and 36 settings do?

The 24 settings control compression — how the shock reacts to hitting an obstacle — and the 36 settings control rebound, how quickly the wheel returns to the ground. Both are set by dial, with the shock in place.

Why does the shock need a remote reservoir?

The reservoir with its heat sink adds oil volume and cooling area. On a long rough stage the oil runs cooler and damping stays repeatable.

Can the shock be rebuilt?

Yes, it is fully strippable and serviceable. Servicing is also the condition for extending the warranty beyond the basic period.

What is the warranty?

2 years or 100,000 km, extendable to 6 years in total once the shock is registered with the manufacturer and the required services are done and reported.
