EFS MRP 2.5 Rear Shock Absorber, 75 mm - Land Cruiser 70, Patrol

The rear axle of a 79 series or a coil sprung Patrol carries everything: boxes, water, fuel and gear. After 200 kilometres of corrugations the factory damper is glowing hot and the vehicle starts to float, even though nothing has actually broken.

The MRP 2.5 rear damper for a 75 mm lift solves that with hardware: a finned remote reservoir sheds heat, and two independent adjusters let you match the damping to the mass you really carry.

Application
Land Cruiser 76, 78 and 79 plus Patrol Y60/Y61
Lift
3" / 75 mm
Design
Monotube with remote reservoir

Key benefits

  • Two independent adjustment ranges - 24 compression clicks handle the hit, 36 rebound clicks handle the return.
  • Additional finned reservoir - extra oil and cooling exactly where a standard damper starts to give up.
  • Aluminium body, monotube layout - a thicker shaft and predictable damping under a load.
  • Full serviceability - seals and oil are replaceable instead of the whole damper.
  • Shaft boot and bonded bushes in the box - no small parts to chase.

What is in the box

  • MRP 2.5 damper with a hose-mounted remote reservoir
  • rubber shaft boot
  • steel reservoir bracket
  • hose clamps and mounting hardware
  • instruction sheet with the registration QR code

The listing covers one damper. A complete axle needs two.

Who it is for

For touring and working live-axle vehicles on a 3 inch lift: 70 series Cruisers with a build on the back and Patrols whose rear end is permanently loaded. Adjustability genuinely helps here, because the load on these vehicles changes from trip to trip.

Fitment notes

The manufacturer lists this part for the Land Cruiser 76, 78 and 79 (from the HZJ78 and HZJ79 of 10/1999-2006, through the VDJ76R, VDJ78R and VDJ79R from 2007, to the GDJ79R Dual Cab from 09/2023 without manual transmission), and for coil sprung GQ Y60 and GU Y61 Patrols. The distributor also mentions the 71 and 74 series - confirm the part number for those first.

Fitting and tuning

Damping is set with two knobs: 24 clicks of compression and 36 clicks of rebound. Clockwise (marked H+) adds damping, counter-clockwise (S-) takes it away. The manufacturer gives starting points: 0-10 compression and 0-12 rebound clicks for town use, 10-20 and 12-22 off-road, 15-24 and 22-36 for extreme driving. Treat them as a baseline - load and driving style will move them.

The reservoir mounts on the supplied bracket and clamps, somewhere protected from impacts. Our workshop can handle selection, fitting and the later rebuild.

Warranty and registration

The distributor states a 2-year or 100,000 km warranty which can be extended to 6 years in total. The condition: register the damper with the manufacturer after purchase (QR code in the instruction sheet), then carry out and report a service before 2 years / 100,000 km, and a second one before the next 2 years / 50,000 km. Each reported service adds another 2 years and 50,000 km of cover.

Why it is worth it

  • Compression and rebound adjusted independently - tune for the load and the terrain.
  • The extra finned reservoir holds damping together on long, fast sections.
  • Built to be rebuilt, with cover extendable to 6 years.

We can match the front and rear to your lift and your load - tell us what you drive and how.
