Overlander Explorer 3.0 Roof Tent 140 cm with Sky Roof

A roof tent solves the sleeping problem, but you are still left wondering where to drop your boots, get changed and stash gear when it rains. The Explorer 3.0 answers that directly: the extension is part of the tent, not an accessory you buy later.

At 140 cm wide this version opens to a depth of 310 cm – 70 cm more than the Adventure of the same width. You gain a covered zone by the entrance, and folded the tent is still only 28 cm tall.

Key benefits

  • Sky Roof with a PVC window – the window is built into the roof, so you get daylight inside and a view of the sky at night without opening the tent.
  • 600D Oxford shell, 260 g, rated PU2000 mm+ – tear-resistant fabric with a waterproof rating that handles real rain, not just drizzle.
  • 420D outer layer with anti-UV 50+ coating – slows down fabric ageing on long trips under strong sun.
  • 60 mm high-density foam mattress with a removable cotton cover – the bed is already made, and the cover comes off for washing.
  • Side windows with insect mesh – ventilate the interior without letting bugs in.
  • SBS zips – large sliders that cope with daily opening and packing down.
  • Aluminium floor structure with reinforcements – a rigid base at contained weight.
  • Side or rear deployment – you place the entrance wherever the camp site allows.
  • Built-in extension (annex) – deployed depth of 310, i.e. 70 cm more than the Adventure version of the same width.

Who it is for. For trips longer than a weekend, where a bed is not the only thing that matters and a rain-protected area right by the entrance counts. The 140 cm version keeps a narrower footprint on the roof yet still gives you the full extra space thanks to the built-in extension.

Fitting notes

The tent unfolds from the roof of the vehicle and you climb in on the supplied telescopic ladder. Before ordering, check the static and dynamic roof load your roof rack and vehicle roof are rated for – at 54 kg that is the first thing to confirm, and the tent maker does not prescribe one mounting solution. It is also worth comparing the packed size (140 x 123 x 28 cm) with the spacing of your roof bars.

If you want to be sure your rack and roof will carry this setup, get in touch – Szekla4x4 also runs a workshop that builds overland vehicles day in, day out.

Why it is worth it

  • Materials described in numbers, not slogans: 600D, 260 g, PU2000 mm+, 420D, anti-UV 50+, 550 g PVC.
  • Mattress and ladder included – once the tent is open, the bed is ready.
  • The Sky Roof and the mesh windows turn a night out into more than just shelter from the rain.

If a season of sleeping on the road is on the cards, this 140 cm wide version lets you sleep high, dry and without pitching camp on the ground.
