On a longer stop it is not shade itself that matters but how much of it there is — a small awning covers a table, a larger one covers the whole field kitchen and a place to sit. This variant is a 2.5 x 2.5 metre square, giving 6.25 m² of cover alongside the vehicle.
A square footprint reaches as far out from the car as it does along it, which makes it easier to fit a table and chairs underneath rather than just a narrow strip against the bodywork.
