Bump Stops
NOMADTECH Hydraulic Suspension Bump Stop, 2" Travel
NOMADTECH hydraulic suspension bump stop with 2" (5.08 cm) of travel. Instead of bouncing the impact back like rubber, it pushes oil through internal passages and dissipates the energy of the hit. It protects arms, bushings and shock mounts at full compression.
NOMADTECH Hydraulic Suspension Bump Stop, 2" Travel
A solid rubber stop does its job until the first hard landing – after that you feel every impact through your spine, and the suspension takes a hit nobody designed it for.
A hydraulic bump stop behaves differently from rubber. Instead of throwing the impact back into the body, it forces oil through internal passages and turns the energy of the hit into heat – the suspension comes to a soft stop rather than against a rigid ledge.
This version offers 2 inches of travel, 5.08 cm in which the oil has to arrest the mass of the vehicle. It is the shortest variant in the family – the one you pick where space around the bump stop is tight but you still want a hard bottom-out replaced by controlled damping.
TRAVEL 2" (5.08 cm) | TYPE Hydraulic (BUMPSTOP) | PURPOSE Prevents harsh suspension bottom-out |
Key benefits
- 2" (5.08 cm) of working travel – that is the distance the oil has to arrest the mass of the vehicle; a longer stroke means a gentler stop and lower peak loads on the mounts.
- Hydraulic rather than elastic action – rubber gives the stored energy straight back and kicks the wheel up; a hydraulic stop dissipates it as heat, so the vehicle keeps contact with the ground more easily.
- Protects the rest of the suspension – it limits the shock reaching the arms, bushings and shock mounting points at full compression.
- Threaded body with locking rings – lets you set and lock the height of the stop in its mount instead of accepting a fixed position.
- Contact cap on the shaft – spreads the load over the surface the stop strikes rather than point-loading the arm.
Technical data
- Type: hydraulic suspension bump stop (BUMPSTOP)
- Travel: 2" (5.08 cm)
- Manufacturer: NOMADTECH
- Purpose: prevents harsh suspension bottom-out
Who it is for. For suspensions where, after a lift or a geometry change, the arm starts hitting the stop and there is simply no room for a longer unit. 5.08 cm is not much travel, but next to a rubber block the difference is that the energy is spread over time instead of returned in a single hit.
Fitting notes
A hydraulic stop needs its own strike point – usually a tube or cup welded to the frame or axle, lined up precisely with the path of the arm. The distributor listing gives no installed dimensions, no thread specification and no vehicle list, so choosing the location and building the mount is workshop work. If you are building a suspension from scratch, get in touch – Szekla4x4 also runs a workshop that does exactly this kind of fabrication.
Before the first drive, cycle the full range of travel with the vehicle up on stands: the stop has to engage before the shock reaches the end of its stroke, and the shaft must not work at an angle.
Why it is worth it
- It turns a hard bottom-out into controlled damping – a difference you feel in the cabin and see in how long the suspension lasts.
- 2" of travel is a concrete, checkable selection figure, not a vague promise of "more comfort".
- Part of a family with three stroke lengths, so you can match it to the space your build actually has.
If your suspension regularly reaches the end of its travel, this part goes to work at precisely the moment the rest of the system takes the biggest hit.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much travel does this stop have?
2 inches, which is 5.08 cm.
How does a hydraulic bump stop differ from a rubber one?
Rubber is a spring element – it stores the impact energy and gives it straight back. A hydraulic stop forces oil through internal passages and converts that energy into heat, so the suspension stops more gently and does not throw the wheel back up.
Will it fit my vehicle?
The distributor listing gives no vehicle list and no installed dimensions – this is a universal part for suspension builds and requires a purpose-made strike point. It is worth discussing the choice with a workshop that knows your suspension setup.
How many do I need?
One stop works on one wheel, so an axle needs two. The listing describes a single unit – choose the quantity to match the number of points you want to protect.
