A Raptor 4x4 rear monotube shock absorber with an external reservoir for a square lamp Toyota Land Cruiser KZJ/LJ 70. More oil volume and better cooling mean damping that stays consistent on long off-road stages. Works with lifts from +4 to +8 cm and can be tuned with nitrogen.

Rear Monotube Shock Absorber with External Reservoir, +2" Lift, Toyota Land Cruiser 70 KZJ/LJ — Square Lamp (Raptor 4x4, part 151512)

On a long, broken section a conventional twin-tube damper cooks its oil and simply stops damping after a quarter of an hour — the truck starts floating and you slow down whether you wanted to or not. A monotube with a separate reservoir keeps gas away from oil and gives it far more surface area to shed heat, so the damping curve holds up much longer.

This is the rear version for a KZJ 70 / LJ 70 with the square lamp body. The manufacturer states it works with lift kits from +4 to +8 cm and that it can be tuned with nitrogen pressure.

Fitment
Land Cruiser KZJ 70 / LJ 70, square lamp
Lift range
+4 to +8 cm
Construction
Monotube, external reservoir

Key benefits

  • External reservoir — more oil volume and better cooling, which means damping that stays consistent on long gravel and sand sections where ordinary shocks overheat.
  • Monotube design — separating gas from oil limits aeration, and aeration is exactly what causes the sudden loss of damping under heavy suspension work.
  • Nitrogen pressure tuning — the characteristic can be matched to the weight of the vehicle and how you drive it, instead of living with one factory setting.
  • A broad +4 to +8 cm lift window — one damper covers several lift heights, including a future move to taller springs.

Who it is for. A 70-series that genuinely covers distance off tarmac — expeditions, long gravel stages, sand, where the suspension works for hours without a break. It is also a sensible choice for a permanently loaded truck: the extra weight works the damper harder, and the larger oil volume gives it a chance to keep its characteristic.

Fitting notes

An external reservoir needs a planned mounting point and a secure hose route — it must clear the chassis, brake lines and moving parts through the full range of suspension travel. Shocks are fitted in pairs. Our workshop builds off-road and overlanding suspension every day, so we can plan the reservoir routing and fit the set.

Why buy this shock

  • A genuinely heat-resistant solution, not just a longer damper.
  • Nitrogen tuning gives you real scope to set the truck up the way you want it.
  • One fitment window from +4 to +8 cm — no new dampers needed if you change springs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What lift does it work with?

The manufacturer states it fits lift kits from +4 to +8 cm.

What is the external reservoir for?

It adds oil volume and cooling surface, so the damper heats up more slowly and holds a consistent damping characteristic for longer.

Can it be adjusted?

Yes, the manufacturer allows tuning with nitrogen pressure.

Does it fit the round lamp version?

No. The manufacturer assigns this part number to the square lamp (faro quadro) body.

Is this a single unit?

Yes, the manufacturer lists this part number as one shock absorber — two are needed per axle.
