You leave the vehicle at a trailhead and head off on foot, while the roof top tent stays on the roof all day. Standard nuts can be undone by anyone with an open-end wrench in their pocket.
This set replaces them with nuts of an unusual profile that a regular wrench or pliers cannot grip. It is not total protection, but it discourages thieves and adds a lot of time to removing the tent.
