Snorkels
Safari Snorkel SS1080HF - Jeep Wrangler JL & Gladiator JT
The Safari SS1080HF snorkel lifts the air intake to windscreen pillar height and separates water from the airstream, protecting the engine during water crossings and on dusty gravel.
Fits Jeep Wrangler JL (2- and 4-door) from 2018 and Gladiator JT with the 3.6 V6 Pentastar, 2.0 GME Hurricane and 2.2 Multijet II engines. Does not fit the 3.0 V6 EcoDiesel.
Safari Snorkel SS1080HF - Jeep Wrangler JL and Gladiator JT
The factory air intake on a Wrangler JL sits low, right in the wheel arch area. One deeper puddle or a fast-flowing creek crossing is enough to draw water in - and that is the shortest route to a bent connecting rod. On gravel the damage is less dramatic but just as expensive: the air filter clogs with convoy dust within a dozen kilometres.
Safari SS1080HF moves the intake point up to windscreen pillar height and separates water from the airstream on the way. It comes from the V-Spec line, engineered in Australia specifically around the JL and JT intake layout - not a universal pipe.
Vehicle Jeep Wrangler JL (2- and 4-door), Jeep Gladiator JT | Model years 2018 onwards | Engines 3.6 V6 Pentastar, 2.0 GME Hurricane, 2.2 Multijet II diesel |
Key features
- Air Ram head with water separator - rain and spray are thrown out before they reach the filter, so the element stays dry longer and you replace it less often.
- Raised intake point at windscreen pillar height - air is drawn away from the dust cloud trailing the vehicle in front of you.
- UV-stable polyethylene body with substantial wall thickness - it will not fade or crack when a branch hits it on a tight trail.
- Flow-bench validated design - airflow matches the factory intake, so the engine is not starved.
- Designed and manufactured in Australia, V-Spec line.
- Lifetime manufacturer warranty on the snorkel body.
- Kit includes a fitting template and instructions, so the bodywork cut follows a pattern rather than guesswork.
Fitment
Jeep Wrangler JL from 2018, both 2- and 4-door, plus Jeep Gladiator JT. Confirmed engines: 3.6 V6 Pentastar, 2.0 turbo GME Hurricane (including the 4xe plug-in hybrid) and 2.2 Multijet II diesel.
Excluded versions: this snorkel does not fit the 3.0 V6 EcoDiesel - the manufacturer rules it out explicitly. If you are unsure which engine you have, send us the VIN and we will check it before dispatch.

Installation and notes
This is a permanent installation - bodywork has to be opened up and the duct routed to the airbox. The kit provides a template that marks the exact cut line and drilling points, plus step-by-step instructions. We rate the difficulty as moderate: accurate marking out and proper corrosion protection of the cut edge are what matter.
If you would rather not drill into your own Wrangler, we can fit this snorkel in the Szekla4x4 workshop. We do it regularly, sealing the cut edges and pressure-checking the whole intake system afterwards.
Frequently asked questions
Can I wade deeper once the snorkel is fitted?
Not automatically. A snorkel protects the air intake only. Wading depth is still limited by axle and gearbox breathers, wiring, control modules, door and floor seals. The snorkel removes the single most destructive risk, but it does not raise the manufacturer's rating.
Does the fender have to be cut?
Yes, fitting requires permanent modification of the bodywork. The manufacturer supplies a template that sets the position and shape of the cut and the drilling points.
How do I know it fits my engine?
The kit covers 3.6 V6 Pentastar, 2.0 GME Hurricane and 2.2 Multijet II. It excludes the 3.0 V6 EcoDiesel. Send us your VIN if you want certainty before ordering.
Can I add a cyclonic pre-cleaner?
Safari offers pre-cleaners that mount on the Air Ram head. We confirm compatibility with this specific kit before purchase - tell us where you drive and we will advise.
Does the snorkel change intake behaviour or engine output?
The design was flow-bench tested so that airflow matches the factory intake. This is not a tuning part - the goal is to take nothing away, not to add power.
What is the warranty?
The manufacturer covers this snorkel with a lifetime warranty on the body.
Why it is worth it
- The only genuine protection against water ingestion in a vehicle that actually goes off-road, not just looks the part.
- Noticeably longer air filter life when driving in convoy on gravel and sand.
- A dedicated JL and JT solution backed by a lifetime warranty - not an improvised universal pipe.
If you are planning a trip where water crossings and dusty sections are a certainty, this is the part to sort out before you leave rather than after.
