MetalCloak UnderCloak Integrated Skid Plate System for the Ineos Grenadier
A single skid plate protects a single component. The trouble is that off-road an obstacle does not stop where the plate ends — it travels under the vehicle and catches on whatever hangs down next. That is why the UnderCloak is not a set of separate plates but one system, with the edges of each plate shaped so a rock or a log slides underneath and comes out the other side.
The system covers the oil pan and motor, the transmission, the transfer case and the fuel tank. The motor and oil pan skid is formed, welded 1/4 inch steel (about 6.4 mm) — the thickest piece in the kit, tucked as high as possible so it does not spoil the approach angle. The remaining plates are 3/16 inch steel with upturned side edges.

What it covers
- Oil pan and motor – formed, welded 1/4in steel (approx. 6.4 mm), tucked as high as possible to preserve the approach angle, with integrated access to the oil filter and drain plug.
- Transmission – 3/16in steel (approx. 4.8 mm).
- Transfer case – 3/16in steel.
- Fuel tank – 3/16in steel with upturned side edges, so obstructions glide rather than catch.
- Fuel tank hanger – 1/8in steel (approx. 3.2 mm).
Key benefits
- Edges designed around approach and departure angles – not cosmetic, but the difference between clearing an obstacle and hanging up on it.
- Bolt heads shielded by skid guard washers – the hardware in critical areas is protected and the holes are slotted. In practice that means the system still comes apart and goes back together after a season on the trail, even once things have shifted.
- Gold zinc chromate coating – it bonds to the steel, so it keeps protecting where rocks have scratched the surface. The finish is paintable if you want a custom colour.
- CAD designed, laser cut, CNC formed – repeatable fitment, without fettling during the install.

What it does not cover
The UnderCloak does not protect the differentials — MetalCloak makes separate front and rear diff skids for those, and both are in our range. It also leaves the catalytic converter exposed, and that is deliberate: enclosing it would trap too much heat.
Who it is for
For Grenadiers driven where the underbody actually works: rocks, ruts, ledges and trips you cannot simply be recovered from. If you are building the truck in stages, this is the part to fit before the first gouge appears in the oil pan — the repair costs many times what the plate does.

Installation notes
MetalCloak rates the install as moderate and quotes 3–4 hours, with no body modification. This is a heavy kit — around 68 kg — so a lift and a second pair of hands are the sensible way to do it.

Frequently asked questions
Does the kit cover the differentials?
No. The differentials have their own skid plates — MetalCloak offers them as part numbers 8240 (front) and 8241 (rear). Both are available in our shop.
Does it cover the catalytic converter?
No, and that is by design. The plates are tucked up around it — enclosing the converter would hold too much heat.
Does an oil change require removing the skid?
No. The skid has an access hole for the drain plug, so oil changes are unaffected.
How much does it weigh?
MetalCloak lists approximately 150 lbs in the specification, so around 68 kg. It is a kit that calls for a lift during installation.
Can the plates be painted a different colour?
Yes. The gold zinc surface is paintable if you want a custom finish.
Which model years does it fit?
The Ineos Grenadier from the 2023 model year to current production.
