MetalCloak RockSport RED Long(er) Travel Front Shocks for the Jeep Wrangler JK, Pair

Once a JK is lifted and running long arms, the front axle works in a range where a factory shock simply runs out. It is not even a comfort issue — at full droop the wheel loses contact with the ground earlier than the geometry would allow.

The RockSport RED in Long(er) Travel form answers that without moving into competition shock money. Twin tube construction with valving specified by MetalCloak, an 18 mm shaft, a nitrogen charge to resist fade, and a full-length stone guard on the shaft. Extended length is 30.9 inches, collapsed 18.2 inches.

Note: these shocks require a lift

MetalCloak states plainly that RockSport RED shocks will not fit a Jeep with no lift. It names the Long(er) Travel version for the 5.5in lift kit and for the 4.5in long arm kit. If your vehicle runs mid arms or a lower lift, contact us before ordering and we will pick the right version.

Key benefits

  • Valving matched to True Dual-Rate coils – MetalCloak treats this shock as part of a system rather than a universal part. If you run MetalCloak springs, the two were designed together.
  • 18 mm chrome shaft – noticeably heavier than typical JK shocks, resisting bending under side loads.
  • Nitrogen charged – limits oil aeration and the fade that follows a fast series of impacts, which is exactly where an ordinary shock starts going soft.
  • Double welded bushing eyes – reinforcement at the point carrying the highest loads under articulation.
  • Natural rubber bushings – they damp vibration better than hard polyurethane, which shows up as calmer suspension behaviour in daily driving.
  • Full-length shaft stone guard – protects the chrome surface from stones; a damaged shaft is the most common cause of a leak and the end of a shock's life.

Who they are for

For lifted JKs running long arms where there is no need to move up to reservoir shocks. This is the sensible middle: more travel than the base version, valving matched to MetalCloak springs, and a price that does not eat the budget for the rest of the suspension. They suit a vehicle driven daily and taken off-road at weekends — if you cover long, broken sections at speed, a reservoir design that sheds heat better is worth considering.

Installation notes

MetalCloak rates the install as easy and quotes 1–2 hours with no body modification. An alignment by a suspension specialist is recommended after any suspension change.

You can leave the choice of shock for your particular setup to us — Szekla4x4.pl is an authorised MetalCloak dealer with a workshop specialising in off-road work.

Why they are worth it

  • The Long(er) version genuinely adds travel rather than just a different label — with long arms, length is what decides how much of the suspension you use.
  • A shock tuned to the manufacturer's own springs rather than picked by lift height alone.
  • A heavy shaft and full guard translate into durability in Polish conditions: salt, gravel and mud.

Frequently asked questions

Can I fit them to a Jeep with no lift?

No. MetalCloak states plainly that RockSport RED shocks will not fit a vehicle without a lift.

What suspension are they intended for?

MetalCloak specifies the Long(er) Travel version for the 5.5in lift kit and for the 4.5in long arm kit. Mid arm setups and lower lifts use different lengths — contact us and we will pick the right one.

Does the kit contain two shocks?

Yes, it is a pair for the front axle.

Do they work with springs from other manufacturers?

The valving was specified for MetalCloak True Dual-Rate coils and that is how the manufacturer positions the shock. With other springs the characteristics may not be optimal.

What are the lengths?

30.9 inches fully extended and 18.2 inches collapsed.
