MetalCloak RockSport RED Long(er) Rear Shock Kit with Brackets, JK
A MetalCloak RockSport RED Long(er) Travel rear shock kit for the Jeep Wrangler JK, supplied with lower mount relocation brackets. CAD formed 3/16in plate moves the mounting point so the suspension actually uses the shock travel and gains clearance. Twin tube shock, 18 mm shaft, nitrogen charged, stone guard. Note: a lift is required.
MetalCloak RockSport RED Long(er) Travel Rear Shock Kit with Relocation Brackets, Jeep Wrangler JK
A longer rear shock on a JK achieves little on its own if the factory lower mount stays where it was. The shock has the travel, but the suspension never uses it — and the lower eye hangs low, becoming one of the first things to take a hit off-road.
So this is not just a pair of shocks, it is a kit. Alongside the rear RockSport RED Long(er) Travel shocks MetalCloak supplies 3/16 inch plate relocation brackets, CAD formed and bolted on without welding. They move the lower mounting point so the suspension actually uses the available travel, and raise ground clearance at that point along the way.

What suspension it suits
MetalCloak names the Long(er) Travel shocks as the right choice for the 5.5in lift kit and also for the 4.5in long arm kit. It also states plainly that RockSport RED shocks will not fit a Jeep with no lift. If you run a lower lift or mid arms, contact us and we will pick the right version.
What the relocation brackets do
- More usable travel – moving the lower mounting point lets the suspension work through the shock's range instead of stopping short of it.
- More clearance at the mount – the lower shock eye stops being the lowest point catching on ledges and rocks.
- CAD formed 3/16in plate, gold zinc finish – a part living in mud and salt, so corrosion protection here is not cosmetic.
- 100% bolt-on – no welding, no body modification; all required hardware is in the kit.

The shock itself
- Valving matched to True Dual-Rate coils – MetalCloak treats RockSport shocks as part of a system rather than a universal replacement part.
- 18 mm chrome shaft – noticeably heavier than typical JK shocks and resistant to bending.
- Nitrogen charged – limits oil aeration and the fade that follows a fast series of impacts.
- Double welded bushing eyes and natural rubber bushings – strength where the loads are highest, and calmer suspension behaviour day to day.
- Full-length shaft stone guard – protects the chrome surface from stones, the most common cause of a leak.

Who it is for
For JKs on a 5.5in lift, or 4.5in with long arms, where there is no need to move up to reservoir shocks. The rear kit with relocation has one advantage over simply swapping shocks: it solves two problems at once — using the travel and clearing the lower mount. It pairs naturally with the front version, 1018, for a complete set.
Installation notes
MetalCloak rates the install as easy and quotes 1–2 hours with no body modification — the brackets bolt on rather than being welded. An alignment by a suspension specialist is recommended after any suspension change.
You can leave the choice of shocks and brackets for your setup to us — Szekla4x4.pl is an authorised MetalCloak dealer with a workshop specialising in off-road work.
Why it is worth it
- A kit rather than just shocks — without relocating the lower mount, much of the extra travel goes unused.
- A shock tuned to the manufacturer's own springs rather than chosen by lift height alone.
- Bolt-on brackets: the whole benefit of relocation without a welder and without touching the body.

Frequently asked questions
Are the rear shocks longer than the front ones?
No. MetalCloak answers directly that the rear shocks are the same length — the difference is the relocation bracket supplied with them, which lets that length be used.
What lift is this kit for?
MetalCloak specifies the Long(er) Travel shocks for the 5.5in lift kit and for the 4.5in long arm kit.
Can I fit it to a Jeep with no lift?
No. MetalCloak states plainly that RockSport RED shocks will not fit a vehicle without a lift.
Do the brackets need welding?
No. They are formed for a bolt-on installation and all required hardware is included.
Do they work with springs from other manufacturers?
The valving was specified for MetalCloak True Dual-Rate coils and that is how the manufacturer positions the shock. With other springs the characteristics may not be optimal.
