Weld-on DB3 brackets that move the rear control arm mounts down and back — correcting arm geometry and roll centre after a large lift and reducing bump steer. They tuck behind the wheel, so unlike a long arm they cost no departure angle; they carry a built-in approach skid and fixture spacers for alignment before welding. Laser cut 3/16in steel, raw. ⚠ Requires adjustable rear arms, a 4.5in+ lift and factory brackets already removed. Builder Part: no instructions or warranty, difficult install, 5–6 h.

MetalCloak DB3 Weld-On Rear Control Arm Correction Brackets, Jeep Wrangler JK

Once a JK is lifted, the rear control arms stop working flat — the angle changes, the roll centre moves with it, and the vehicle starts feeling vague: you notice bump steer, braking gets less certain, and the rear behaves differently under acceleration than it should. The classic answer is a long arm kit, but long arms hang far forward and catch on everything.

The DB3 solves the same problem differently. It moves the rear control arm mounts down and back, restoring the correct working radius — while tucking behind the wheel, so the departure angle is left intact. It has a built-in approach skid and every edge angled so nothing snags.

⚠ Three conditions to meet — check them before ordering

This is a product for a specific situation, not a universal upgrade. MetalCloak sets three conditions and all three are hard:

  • You need adjustable rear control arms. MetalCloak states it plainly: the DB3 will not work with stock arms — adjustable ones are needed to set wheelbase and pinion angle. This is not like the front Pro'lignment drop brackets, which are designed for use with stock arms.
  • A 4.5in lift or taller. At 3.5in and below the DB3 is not needed — MetalCloak recommends simply dialling in the adjustable Duroflex control arms, which gives better ride quality without adding brackets.
  • The weld-on version is for vehicles whose factory control arm brackets have already been cut off — typically after a long arm kit was fitted. If your stock mounts are still there, the bolt-on version is the right one (we stock it).

Unsure about any of these? Send us your configuration — we will answer before you spend money and workshop time.

Weld-on or bolt-on — this is not a budget question

We stock both versions and the prices differ sharply, but the choice follows the state of the vehicle, not the wallet:

THIS VERSION — WELD-ON (7696)
For vehicles whose factory control arm brackets no longer exist — cut off when a long arm kit went on. These weld into the same place. Plate only, no finish, 5–6 hours to fit.
BOLT-ON VERSION (7697)
For vehicles with factory mounts still in place. A complete bolt-on system, no welding and no cutting. More expensive, but the install is within reach of any workshop.

In other words: if you are coming back from a long arm to a mid arm setup, take this version. If you have factory mounts and want to correct the geometry, take the bolt-on.

⚠ This is a "Builder Part" — no warranty and no instructions

MetalCloak classes the weld-on DB3 as a part for custom builds: there is no implied warranty, no instructions, and use is at your own risk. The install is rated difficult and takes 5–6 hours. The parts arrive raw and need corrosion protection after welding.

This is work for a shop that has done conversions like this before. Szekla4x4.pl is an authorised MetalCloak dealer with a workshop specialising in off-road suspension — get in touch before you order.

Key benefits

  • Corrected rear control arm geometry – the arms return to the right working radius, which markedly reduces bump steer and the vague rear end you get after a lift.
  • Corrected roll centre – the vehicle holds the road better, and braking, acceleration and climbing all improve.
  • Full use of suspension travel – corrected angles let you actually use the whole range of compression and droop.
  • Better departure angle than a long arm – the DB3 tucks behind the wheel, while a typical long arm hangs much farther forward and hangs up more often.
  • Built-in approach skid – every surface angled to slide off obstacles rather than catch on them.
  • Fixture spacers included – they let you set the bracket perfectly against the frame before welding. They are what decides whether the geometry comes out right.
  • Laser cut 3/16in steel, CAD designed – once welded, the assembly is noticeably stronger than the factory brackets.

What's in the kit

  • DB3 correction brackets (a set for both sides, to be welded together)
  • fixture spacers
  • all required hardware

The parts arrive raw and uncoated — corrosion protection is applied after welding.

Who it is for

Two groups. First, JK owners running a long arm kit who want to go back to a mid arm setup — because long arms take the hits and cost departure angle. Second, workshops and people building a vehicle from the ground up, for whom welding is a natural part of the process and the price difference against the complete bolt-on system is real money.

If your JK has a 4.5in or taller lift, adjustable arms and intact factory mounts — do not buy this version. The bolt-on system is the right one then.

Installation notes

The brackets weld in exactly where the factory rear control arm mounts were. The critical stage is alignment: the fixture spacers in the kit let you set the parts against the frame before welding — and they are what determines whether the geometry ends up correct. The whole assembly is then fully welded.

An alignment is mandatory after work like this, and wheelbase and pinion angle have to be reset with the adjustable arms. Szekla4x4.pl is an authorised MetalCloak dealer with a workshop specialising in off-road suspension — we will weld it in, set the arms and do the alignment.

Why it is worth it

  • It fixes what a lift alone will not: control arm working angles and roll centre.
  • It gives the benefits of a long arm without its main drawback — the lost departure angle.
  • The difference is felt immediately: in handling, braking and on climbs.
  • The weld-on version costs a fraction of the complete bolt-on system, if the factory brackets are already gone anyway.

Send us your configuration — we will tell you whether you need the DB3 at all, and which version to take.

Frequently asked questions

Will it work with stock control arms?

No. MetalCloak states plainly that adjustable rear arms are needed, to control wheelbase and pinion angle. The DB3 is not like the front Pro'lignment brackets, which are designed for stock arms.

From what lift does it make sense?

MetalCloak recommends the DB3 on JKs with a 4.5in kit and taller. At 3.5in and below it is not needed — dialling in the Duroflex adjustable arms is enough.

How does it differ from the bolt-on version?

The weld-on version is intended for vehicles whose factory control arm brackets have already been cut off, typically after a long arm install. With factory mounts still in place, the complete bolt-on system is the right choice.

Can it be fitted without welding?

No. It is weld-on only, and MetalCloak says not to buy it unless you are prepared to weld. The alternative is the bolt-on version.

Are there instructions?

No. This is a "Builder Parts" item — no instructions and no implied warranty, intended for custom builds.

Will it improve departure angle compared with a long arm?

Yes. The DB3 tucks behind the wheel, while a typical long arm hangs much farther forward and hangs up more often.

Is the part corrosion protected?

No. It arrives raw, prepared for welding — protection is applied after installation.
