MetalCloak Heavy Duty Front Sway Bar Quick Disconnects, Jeep Wrangler JK, Pair
Disconnecting the sway bar before you head off-road is the simplest way to let the suspension give you the articulation it was designed for. On a JK without the electronic disconnect you do it by hand — and that is exactly what this kit is for.
The links come off without tools: pull the linch pin, take the link off, strap the sway bar up to the frame with the supplied stow strap, and carry on. Back on tarmac, the same job in reverse takes a minute.
The construction is the same as in the electronic-sway-bar version: 1in × 1/4in DOM tube, spherical rod ends in chromoly steel with a self-lubricating race, 3/4in pins, machined wrench flats and double adjustment. Length 11in–12in, gold zinc. The price is for a pair.

Which version do you need — one question settles it
MetalCloak makes two front kits for the JK, and they differ by sway bar type, not by quality. The check takes a second: is there a "SWAY BAR" button on your dashboard?
THIS KIT (7421) — NO BUTTON For a JK without the electronic disconnect — that is, everything but the Rubicon. Disconnection is manual, on linch pins. The kit includes stow straps, bolt plates and a rise bracket. | VERSION 7420 — WITH BUTTON For a JK with the electronic sway bar (Rubicon). Disconnection stays factory — at the button. The kit carries disconnect mechanism parts instead of pins and straps. We stock it too. |
The tube, spherical rod ends, 3/4in studs and finish are identical in both kits. All you are choosing is how the bar comes off.
⚠ Have a Rubicon but want the manual version?
The manufacturer answered this one directly: yes, you can — with one caveat. It may require opening up the hole in the sway bar to take the larger hardware. Worth knowing before you order, because it means modifying a factory part.
It does not work the other way round: a JK without an electronic sway bar has nothing for a button to disconnect, so version 7420 has no application there.
How the quick release works
- Linch pins – four in the kit. Taking a link off needs no tools at all.
- Stow straps – two. The disconnected bar is strapped up to the frame instead of being left to bang against the underside.
- Bolt plates – two, for stowing the links along with the bar.
- Rise bracket – 3/8in (approx. 9.5 mm) plate, the thickest part in the kit.
Spherical rod ends instead of rubber
MetalCloak also makes standard links and is honest about them: they work great for most applications. This version is for those for whom that is not enough.
A spherical rod end — chromoly steel, precision ground, hard chrome plated, with a self-lubricating race — gives more rigidity (the bar acts immediately, with no dead zone while rubber deflects), a much longer service life, and none of the knocking that worn bushings produce. There is no grease point to service.

Why the links are so long
The 11in–12in length is a design requirement, not spare length. The manufacturer explains it on the sister kit: the additional length is needed to support the extended length of the shocks and to prevent the sway bar from flipping while articulated.
The kit is designed for MetalCloak's JK 2.5in–4.5in mid arm lifts. For a different setup — a long arm conversion in particular — get in touch and we will confirm the choice.
Construction
- 1in DOM tube with a 1/4in wall (A513 steel) – far stronger than the stamped factory link.
- Spherical rod ends – chromoly steel, hard chrome plated, self-lubricating race.
- 3/4in mounting studs – 1.25 × 41330 steel.
- Rise bracket – 3/8in hot rolled steel plate.
- Machined wrench flats and double adjustment – length is set on the vehicle with an open spanner.
- Gold zinc finish throughout.
- Made in the USA.

Who they are for
For lifted non-Rubicon JKs that genuinely go off-road — and for anyone who has already worn out the rubber bushings in the factory links.
If you drive mostly on the road and go off it occasionally, the standard links will do — we are repeating the manufacturer here and have no reason to dress it up. This version is for when rigidity, service life and a tool-free disconnect matter to you.
Installation notes
The install is simple: the links go into the factory locations, with no cutting or drilling. The manufacturer allows an hour and rates the difficulty as easy. Once fitted, the length has to be set so that with the vehicle on its wheels the sway bar sits neutral — otherwise it works under preload and disconnecting on the trail becomes a struggle.
Szekla4x4.pl is an authorised MetalCloak dealer with a workshop specialising in off-road suspension — we will fit and set them. Send us your configuration and we will confirm the version and the length.
Why they are worth it
- Disconnect the bar on the trail without tools, with a stow strap included.
- A 1in × 1/4in tube instead of a stamped tab — the link stops being the weakest part.
- Spherical rod ends with a self-lubricating race: no wear-out, no knocking, no servicing.
- Bolts into the factory locations in an hour, with nothing modified on the body.
Frequently asked questions
Is the price for a pair or a single link?
For a pair. The manufacturer confirmed it directly in answer to a customer's question.
I have a Rubicon — can I use these?
The manufacturer says yes, but it may require opening up the hole in the sway bar to take the larger hardware. If you want to keep the factory button disconnect, version 7420 is the right kit.
How does this differ from version 7420?
Only in how it disconnects and what is in the box: this version is manual (linch pins, straps, plates), while 7420 works with the factory electronic disconnect. Tube, rod ends, studs and finish are identical.
Does disconnecting need tools?
No. The linch pin comes out by hand. The kit includes straps for stowing the disconnected bar against the frame.
What lift are they for?
Designed for MetalCloak JK 2.5in–4.5in mid arm lifts. For a different setup, ask before ordering.
Do the rod ends need greasing?
No. The race is self-lubricating.
Is any cutting or drilling required?
No — on a JK without the electronic sway bar they bolt into the factory locations with no modification.
