MetalCloak Overline Quick-Release Front Flares, 8in Standard, Black Powder Coat, Jeep Wrangler JK, Pair
Overline is the only fender system where the flare comes off without workshop tools and without dismantling the fender. Two patented ball lock joints, an Allen key, two stainless steel bolts — and ten minutes later you have a bare tube fender and full freedom on a narrow trail. They go back on just as quickly.
This is the standard, 8in version — the most popular of the three widths. It gives 7¾in of tyre coverage measured edge to edge, an inch more than the factory flare: enough to protect the paint and satisfy the regulations, without eating into turning clearance.
1/8in steel skins, a structure of 1½in × .120 wall tube, and laser cut 1/8in gussets. Finish: black textured powder coat — ready to fit, with no bodywork and no painting.

? A hard requirement: you must have Overline tube fenders
This is the most important line on the page. Overline flares do not mount to factory fenders. The manufacturer answered the question directly:
"No, our Overline Flares require the use of our Overline Fenders for mounting."
The ball lock joints engage the Overline tube fender and nothing else. The Overline tube fenders for the JK (part no. 3214) are stocked here — if you do not have them, that is where to start. Get in touch and we will put the set together.
The ball lock joint — why this works
Ordinary removable flares are held by bolts, so every load from the trail goes into the thread. The manufacturer solved it differently: its signature ball lock joint takes trail stresses on a rigid joint rather than on the bolt.
- Two ball lock joints per side — released with an Allen key.
- Two 18-8 stainless steel bolts — the only things to undo.
- An additional gusset in laser cut 1/8in plate, stiffening the joint to the fender.
In practice: take them off before a narrow trail, put them in the boot, refit them back on tarmac — on your own, at the vehicle, in a few minutes.
How much clearance it buys
The manufacturer gives three figures, all of them concrete:
- Over 6in more clearance above the tyre than the factory JK fender.
- 2in more than a typical tube fender from other makers.
- 37in tyres on a stock JK — no lift needed, from the fender alone.
The manufacturer also claims the best object deflection angle in the industry and the greatest turning clearance — which is what actually decides whether a tyre rubs the fender at full compression on lock.

Three widths — which to choose
NARROW 6in (3280) Maximum clearance, minimum coverage. For vehicles used mainly off-road. Stocked here. | THESE — STANDARD 8in (3281) The most popular choice. Coverage close to factory (an inch wider), with the full Overline clearance. | WIDE 10in (3282) The greatest coverage — for very wide tyres and track widths. Stocked here. |
Front and rear flares are chosen as a pair — the manufacturer notes that the standard version matches the Overline Standard Edition rear flares. Get in touch if you want a set for all four corners.
Why the powder coated version rather than raw
The manufacturer offers this product in two finishes: raw steel or black powder coat. This listing is the powder coated one — and we have a reason to recommend it.
In the manufacturer's reviews, two independent customers note the same thing: on the raw version, painted afterwards to match the body, the weld areas show through the paint. One describes it neutrally as a heads-up for anyone planning to paint; the other as the reason he was unhappy with his purchase. The practical conclusion: if you take raw steel to be painted, budget for bodywork preparation. The powder coated version does not have that problem, because the textured finish hides the weld structure.
⚠ The manufacturer also states plainly: test fit the product before having it custom painted or powder coated — it accepts no responsibility for the cost of finishes applied by others.

Who they are for
For JKs on large tyres that genuinely go off-road — and for owners who want the choice: coverage and paint protection on the road, full freedom with the flares off on the trail. This is a solution for people who take flares off several times a season, not once and for all.
Installation notes
Fitting takes literally minutes: seat the flare on the fender's ball lock joints, tighten two bolts with an Allen key. The manufacturer allows 10 minutes and no body modification at all.

Why they are worth it
- The only system where a flare comes off in minutes, without dismantling the fender.
- The ball lock joint carries loads on a rigid joint rather than on a bolt thread.
- 1/8in steel and 1½in tube — this is not a plastic overlay.
- The powder coated version: ready to fit, with no bodywork and no painting.
Frequently asked questions
Can I fit them to factory fenders?
No. The manufacturer answers directly: Overline flares require Overline tube fenders. We stock them (part no. 3214).
How long does it take to remove them on the trail?
A few minutes. Two ball lock joints released with an Allen key, plus two stainless bolts.
Which width should I choose?
Standard 8in is the most popular — coverage an inch wider than factory. Narrow 6in for maximum clearance, wide 10in for very wide track widths. We stock all three.
Is this the raw or the finished version?
This listing is the black powder coat, ready to fit. We order the raw steel version in — bear in mind the bodywork preparation before painting.
Do they match the Overline rear flares?
Yes — the manufacturer names the Overline Standard Edition rear flares as the match for these fronts.
Is any cutting or drilling required?
No. The flare engages the Overline fender, with no body modification.
What is the lead time?
The manufacturer states 3–5 weeks. Get in touch before ordering and we will confirm the current time.
