MetalCloak ExoCorner rear corners for the Jeep Wrangler JK and JKU 2007-2018, with ASA moulded light housings. Complete kit: 1/8in steel ExoSkin plates, 6061 T6 aluminium rails, LED lights with side markers and reverse, resistors. The lower-cost ExoCorner variant — but with more in the box than the aluminium kit. ⚠ SAE/DOT stated, no European type-approval data.

MetalCloak ExoCorner LED Taillight Kit, Molded Housing, Jeep Wrangler JK and JKU (pair)

The rear corner of a JK tub takes a hit on every tight manoeuvre off road, and the factory lights are dim. The ExoCorner deals with both in one fitment: it stiffens the corner with a steel plate and an aluminium rail and replaces the factory lights with low-profile LEDs.

This is the lower-cost variant of the ExoCorner family — with light housings moulded in ASA rather than machined aluminium. The rest of the structure is identical, and in several respects this version actually gives you more (see the comparison below).

To be straight about it: this is not simply "the lesser version". Aluminium is harder and will take an impact better, but this version has side markers, reverse lights and stated SAE/DOT compliance, none of which the manufacturer lists for the aluminium kit. Against that, it has no reviews yet, being the newer item.

What's in the kit

  • 2 × 1/8in cold rolled steel ExoSkin plate, black powder coat
  • 2 × 6061 T6 aluminium ExoCorner rail, Type III black anodised
  • 2 × ASA light housing (UV- and cold-resistant polymer)
  • 2 × low-profile LED taillight with side marker and reverse light
  • LED resistors with finned aluminium heat sinks

? The ExoSkin plates are included — there is nothing to buy separately.

Why the resistors are there

The factory JK wiring expects filament bulbs. Swap in LEDs and the current draw drops, so the vehicle reads it as a blown bulb: the indicator hyper-flashes and a warning appears on the dash. The kit includes finned heat-sink resistors that restore the standard flash rate and clear the warnings.

⚠ Type approval — precisely, because it matters

The manufacturer states that these lights are SAE/DOT compliant. That is a US standard, not the European "E" type-approval mark.

In Poland the rear lights on a road-registered vehicle should carry European approval. DOT compliance does not substitute for it, and we found no "E" mark information from the manufacturer. If the vehicle is used on public roads, get in touch before ordering and we will ask the manufacturer for documentation. For a competition or off-road-only vehicle the question does not arise.

⚠ A contradiction in the manufacturer's data

The description says the housings "bolt into stock locations requiring no body modifications", while the installation table lists "Some Drilling & Wiring". Both are true: the lights themselves do go into factory positions, but the ExoSkin plates have to be bolted to the body, and that means drilling. We say so plainly so there is no surprise.

Who it's for

For JK owners who want to protect the rear corner and improve rearward visibility without needing machined aluminium — and who do want side markers and reverse lights.

It is also the more sensible choice for a daily-driven vehicle: ASA does not corrode, does not chip, and handles frost and UV well.

Installation notes

The manufacturer rates it moderate, 1–2 hours, with drilling and electrical work. Szekla4x4.pl is an authorised MetalCloak dealer with a workshop specialising in Jeeps — we will fit the corners and wire in the lights and resistors.

Frequently asked questions

Are the ExoSkin plates included?

Yes, the manufacturer lists them in the contents. Nothing to buy separately.

How does it differ from the 3430?

Housing material (ASA rather than machined aluminium) and contents — this version has side markers, reverse lights and stated SAE/DOT compliance. The full comparison is in the table above.

Are the lights approved for road use in Poland?

The manufacturer states SAE/DOT, a US standard — not the same as the European "E" mark. Get in touch before ordering if the vehicle is registered.

Will the indicators hyper-flash?

No. The kit includes resistors that restore the standard flash rate and clear the warnings.

Is drilling really necessary?

The lights themselves go into factory positions, but the ExoSkin plates require drilling into the body. The manufacturer lists this in its installation table.

What is the lead time?

The manufacturer quotes 2–3 weeks plus transport to Poland.
