MetalCloak Overland front tube fenders in aluminium, for the Jeep Wrangler JK and JKU 2007-2018, black powder coat. 1/8in aluminium sheet welded to 1½in x .120 aluminium tube. 13.6 kg lighter than the steel version — mass taken off the front axle. Will not rust. Fits both bodies.

MetalCloak Overland Tube Fenders, Front, ALUMINIUM, Black Powder Coat, Jeep Wrangler JK and JKU (pair)

The factory JK fender flare is plastic bolted to thin sheet metal. With bigger tyres it no longer covers the tread, and the first contact with rock cracks it.

The Overland is a complete replacement for the factory fender — a one-piece, hand-welded structure in 1/8in aluminium sheet welded to 1½in × .120 aluminium tube, with aluminium reinforcement brackets at the mounting. The manufacturer positions it plainly: "Don't Need Extreme? Go Overland!" — the same build quality as the Overline, without its extreme clearance.

? 13.6 kg off the front axle is not a detail — it is mass carried high and forward. For an overland, road and sand vehicle the aluminium makes sense. For rock work, where the fender actually takes hits, take the steel. A customer who deliberately chose steel wrote: "The main selling points were… I like the idea of steel… and the style of wheeling I do. These are very strong. They do add weight but I was not as worried about that with a two door."

Overline or Overland?

  • Overline (3214) — tube fenders with extreme clearance, built around quick-release flares, for vehicles that run rocks. In our range.
  • Overland (this family) — "a fender for the Expeditionary Jeep Owner". Simpler to fit and cheaper, and the manufacturer states that the 8in version has more coverage behind the tyre than the Overline fenders (75¾in edge to edge).

? Overline is about clearance, Overland is about coverage and looks.

? How long it really takes — from the reviews

The manufacturer says 4–6 hours. Customers are more specific:

  • "Install took about 3-4 hours. The provided nutsert tool works well, just takes time and a little patience. I recommend purchasing nutsert tool as it will speed up installation considerably. Instructions were clear no fudging or fabrication to get them to fit."
  • A more meticulous customer: 7 hours for the front, 3 hours for the rear, working to a routine of "mark, tape, drill, sand, paint".

? The riv-nut tool is what makes the difference. The supplied one works, but with several dozen riv-nuts a proper tool saves hours.

? The manufacturer's answer to the most common question

On 35in tyres with stock suspension on a JKU: "We've successfully run 35" tires with these fenders on a factory suspension setup when using aftermarket wheels." So 35s without a lift are realistic — but wheel offset decides it. Get in touch and we will check against your wheels.

What you can add

  • Aluminium inner fender wells — 3291 or 3293 (cut for shock reservoirs). We stock both.
  • Low-profile LED marker lights (2208-JK) — the mounting points are integrated into the fender and out of harm's way. A customer: "both highly recommended and the light is super bright".
  • Fender-to-grill reinforcement bracket (3201).

What's in the kit

  • 2 × Overland front fender (driver and passenger), one-piece
  • reinforcement brackets in 1/8in aluminium plate
  • all required hardware

⚠ Inner fender wells and marker lights are separate items.

Installation notes

The manufacturer rates the install easy, but allows 4–6 hours and flags drilling. It is one of the longer jobs in the MetalCloak range — not because it is hard, but because of the number of holes.

⚠ For custom paint the manufacturer requires a test fit before painting and does not cover the cost of any finish applied. With the powder coated version that does not arise.
