MetalCloak Overland Tube Fenders, Rear, Steel, Black Powder Coat, Jeep Wrangler JK and JKU (pair)
The factory rear flare on a JK stops exactly where the problem starts: with bigger tyres it no longer covers the tread, and the plastic cracks at the first serious contact.
The rear Overland is a complete replacement for the factory fender — a one-piece welded structure in 1/8in steel sheet welded to 1½in × .120 tube. Unlike the Overline flares, this is not about extreme clearance but about full tyre coverage and a consistent look.

The increased mud guard — a detail that matters
The manufacturer says it was added on customer request: "The engineers at MetalCloak made an extra effort to ensure the Overland Rear Flares had the additional 'mud guard' many of you were asking for." The result: the fender lines up with most full size rear bumpers instead of stopping halfway.
? Steel or aluminium?
| feature | 3400 — steel | 3400-AL — aluminium |
| sheet and tube | 1/8in steel + 1½in × .120 tube | 1/8in aluminium + 1½in × .120 tube |
| weight per pair | approx. 21 kg | approx. 10.4 kg |
| impact strength | higher | lower |
| corrosion | needs a coating | does not rust |
| reviews at the manufacturer | 90% from 28 reviews | 100% from 11 reviews |
The manufacturer states the aluminium version is 30 lb (13.6 kg) lighter than steel — though that figure covers the front and rear set together. On the rear alone the difference is around 10 kg.
? How to match it to the front — the manufacturer's answer
Asked about pairing Overland rears with Overline front fenders, the manufacturer replies: "Our Overland Rear JK fenders were designed to match the width of the Front Overlines with the standard width flares specifically for this option."
So: Overland rear + Overline front tube fenders (3214) + standard flares (3281) is the combination the manufacturer intended. We stock all three. Staying with Overlands at the front (3200 or 3200-AL) works just as naturally.
⚠ The 17/32in drill bit — this is the thing that ruins a weekend
The lowest rating on this product (3/5) is not about quality but about one detail. The customer writes: "Please, please, please tell me why on earth you would create rivet that require a 17/32" drill bit. Even in your video, you mention this is a very odd size drill bit and may be hard to find. You couldn't just us a 1/2" that everyone already has. My weekend project how now become a next weekend project."
Two honest answers:
- The manufacturer sells the 17/32in bit as a separate item (part no. 2912) — we stock it, and it is worth adding to the order.
- Another MetalCloak customer, on the front fenders, writes: "the instructions said to use a 17/32 bit for the rivnuts. A 1/2 works well so no need to buy a new drill bit… The 0.07" difference doesn't matter." That is one customer's experience, not a manufacturer recommendation — we pass it on because it is useful, but the call is yours.
? From the reviews
A customer who chose steel and the black powder coat: "These rear overland fenders provide very good coverage and allow for significantly more wheel travel than the stock Jeep JK fenders. The look is bold and strong while also being very refined and clean. Install took three hours with an experienced (and meticulous) friend who works on aircraft. These are very solid and the fit and finish was excellent."

Who it's for
For JK owners who want full tyre coverage and more wheel travel without moving to the Overline system with its ExoSkin plates. The install is simpler and cheaper, and the look stays consistent with the front.
90% from 28 reviews at the manufacturer. A lower score than the front fenders — and it is worth knowing why: the marks lost are mostly about the 17/32in drill bit, not the product.
Installation notes
The manufacturer rates it easy, 2–3 hours, with drilling — a distinctly shorter job than the front fenders (4–6 h there). Worth having the right drill bit and your own spare riv-nuts.
⚠ For custom paint the manufacturer requires a test fit before painting and does not cover the cost of any finish applied. With the powder coated version that does not arise.
Szekla4x4.pl is an authorised MetalCloak dealer with a workshop specialising in Jeeps — we have the right tooling and will fit the fenders alongside the rest of the armour.
Frequently asked questions
Does it fit both the 2-door and the 4-door JK?
Yes, the manufacturer states plainly that it fits both bodies.
Which front fenders match it?
The manufacturer designed them around Overline fronts with standard width flares. They also pair naturally with the Overland fronts (3200 / 3200-AL).
Which drill bit do I need?
The manufacturer specifies 17/32in and sells it separately (part 2912) — we stock it. Some customers use 1/2in.
Is there an aluminium version?
Yes — 3400-AL, around 10 kg lighter, also in our range.
What is the lead time?
3–5 weeks at the manufacturer plus transport to Poland.
