MetalCloak UnderCloak Skid Washer Replacement Kit, Jeep Wrangler JK

The UnderCloak skid plates are held on with countersunk bolts inside large skid guard washers — those washers take the contact with rock instead of the bolt head. After a few seasons a handful of them look exactly as you would expect.

This kit lets you replace the used pieces without ordering a whole set of hardware. The manufacturer puts it honestly: "only a few usually contact obstructions".

Exactly what is in the kit

• 6 × skid guard washer, 2.0in OD (about 51 mm) mild steel, gold zinc plated

? One kit is NOT a full set for the whole system

The manufacturer is unambiguous: "This kit is NOT meant to replace an entire skid system's worth of hardware. If you want to replace ALL hardware you will require 2 kits."

Order one to replace a few battered pieces. Order two for a full replacement — for instance when taking the skids off for service after a few seasons.

Why gold zinc

The same plating as the skids themselves. The manufacturer: the zinc forms a molecular bond to the steel and protects it even after it has been scraped — unlike paint, which comes off at the first rock and leaves bare steel.

Is one kit enough for the whole system?

No. The manufacturer states plainly that a full replacement needs two kits.

How many M12 bolts are in the kit?

One — M12 × 1.5. The other five are imperial 1/2in-13 bolts.

Does it fit both the 2-door and the 4-door?

Yes, it is the same hardware in both UnderCloak systems.

Are there instructions?

The manufacturer provides none for this kit. Replacement is a matter of undoing the worn bolt and washer and fitting the new one.
