MetalCloak Rescue M1 winch line shackle (patent pending). The load runs through the line itself, so the shackle's rating is the line's rating. 6061-T6 aluminium, black hard anodize, precision milled interior, roll pins to prevent pinching. Synthetic line up to 3/8in, works with a soft shackle or a 3/4in solid shackle. ⚠ Requires splicing the rope; the splicing tool is not included.

MetalCloak Rescue M1 — aluminium winch line shackle (black)

The end of a winch line is where damage usually starts. Conventional solutions rely on the durability of a pin holding the line. The Rescue M1 is built the other way round: it carries the load through the line itself, so the shackle's rating is the line's rating — there is no intermediate part that could turn out to be the weak link.

The manufacturer has filed a patent on the design.

? Read this first: the rope must be spliced

The manufacturer puts it at the top of the description: “The MetalCloak Rescue M1 Recovery Shackle requires splicing your rope. The tool to splice the rope is NOT provided."

That means the line has to be threaded and spliced — this is not a clamp-on or bolt-on terminal. If you have never spliced synthetic rope, plan it as a separate job or hand it to someone who does. The manufacturer allows about 1 hour.

Why it is built this way

  • Rating equals the line's rating — the design introduces no narrower bottleneck
  • Precision milled inside — a smooth surface under the rope loop, less abrasion and lower stress concentration
  • Roll pins hold the parts aligned — the line does not pinch or fray
  • Sits flush on the fairlead — it does not cant as the line spools in
  • 6061-T6 aluminium — light, so it carries less energy than a steel hook if a line lets go
  • Hard anodized — resistant to abrasion and scratching

What it works with

  • Synthetic line up to 3/8in
  • Soft shackles — the primary use; no metal-to-metal contact, less stress on your gear
  • A 3/4in solid shackle — also permitted

⚠ The manufacturer notes: “Only for use with a Soft Shackle or 3/4in Solid Shackle."

Finish options

The manufacturer offers black and clear (grey) anodizing at the same price. This card is the black version — black hard anodizing is the more durable finish against scuffs and scratches. We can order the grey version on request.
