Why the aluminium body matters
The body is cold-forged 6061 T6 aluminium. The manufacturer gives a specific figure: it dissipates heat three times faster than a conventional steel body.
In practice that means a 2.0in shock runs as cool as a 2.5in steel shock in the same application. And temperature is what decides whether, half an hour into a washboard road, the shock is still damping or just bouncing.
The shaft
- 5/8in chrome shaft — thicker than typical
- Induction case hardened to over 55 Rockwell C — the manufacturer states this virtually eliminates scratches from rust and debris
That matters more than it sounds. A scratched shaft destroys the seal, and a shock that loses its seal loses its damping and its oil.
Internal floating piston
The internal floating piston design separates the oil from the high-pressure nitrogen chamber. The result is no aeration and no cavitation — damping that does not fade after a few minutes of hard work, and a suspension response that stays predictable.

Do they suit a lift other than 4.5in?
This set is valved for 4.5in. For another height, contact us and we will pick the right variant.
Are these reservoir shocks?
No. These are the 2.0 Performance series without an external reservoir — but with a floating piston and an aluminium body that makes up for it in heat rejection.
Will they work with another brand's suspension?
The BDS tune is matched to MetalCloak's characteristics. They will work with other systems, but not optimally.
A pair per axle or per vehicle?
A pair for one axle. A full set also needs the other axle's shocks.
