MetalCloak is an American manufacturer based in California that has been designing and building off-road components exclusively for Jeeps for over two decades. Every part is CAD-engineered, laser cut, welded and finished in-house, and the company backs its structure and coating with a lifetime warranty.

The Durotrak bushing

A patented two-part vulcanised elastomer bushing that rotates freely through 360 degrees in the vertical plane while minimising horizontal forces. In practice: the axle stays centred and vibration and noise do not reach the steering wheel. It is the usual answer to track bar clunk in an older TJ.

Gold Zinc finish

Steel parts are gold zinc plated. Zinc protects the steel electrochemically even where it is scratched, and the surface stays paintable. On a twenty-year-old Jeep that matters more than on a new one.

Note - welding required

The manufacturer rates this as difficult and it requires welding. Do not buy it unless you have access to welding. We can do this work in our workshop.

Track bar length - manufacturer's note: "The track bar specifications are just starting points. ALL JEEPS ARE DIFFERENT. MetalCloak recommends seeing a suspension specialist for correct track bar lengths for YOUR Jeep." On a twenty-year-old vehicle that may already have been modified, that is not a formality.

After installation: the manufacturer recommends a suspension specialist aligns the vehicle after any work on the suspension or steering.

Installation

Difficult; the manufacturer recommends a licensed installer. Cutting and welding required. 2-3 hours.

A note on vehicle age

TJs and LJs are now twenty to nearly thirty years old. Expect seized bolts and corroded frame threads when removing factory parts - soak the joints in penetrant beforehand and use anti-seize on reassembly. Several reviews of TJ parts are really about this rather than about the part.
