Tub Mount Spare Tire Carrier - Jeep TJ/LJ/YJ/CJ7

A spare tire carrier that mounts to the body corners rather than the tailgate. That is the key difference: the factory TJ tailgate hinges are not built for a big tire, and with a 35" or 37" the gate sags and the mounts eventually crack.

The carrier offers multiple swing-out options and can be removed entirely. Vibration is damped by the patented Durotrak system with Delrin bushings - the answer to the rattle that afflicts practically every swing-out carrier after a few thousand kilometres.

Black Textured Powder Coat

The powder coated version carries MetalCloak's signature micro-textured semi-gloss finish. It resists stone chipping and local trail damage can be touched up without refinishing the whole part.

• The carrier requires corner guards. The manufacturer states this directly - it mounts to the corner guards (2432, 2435, 2438, 2440, 2439, 2460), not to the body panel.
• It does not work with the stock license plate mount. The plate must be relocated - we offer the dedicated bracket as 2181.

A note on vehicle age

TJs and LJs are now twenty to nearly thirty years old. Expect seized bolts and corroded frame threads when removing factory parts - soak the joints in penetrant beforehand and use anti-seize on reassembly. Several reviews of TJ parts are really about this rather than about the part.
