Full Corner Guards, Pair - Jeep TJ Wrangler

Steel armour for the rear body corners. They do two jobs at once: protecting the most exposed part of the body and serving as the mounting base for quick-release rear flares.

Full corner guards cover the entire rear corner - from the fender edge down to the bottom of the body. That is where a TJ rusts first and where it gets dented while manoeuvring off-road.

Finish - important

The manufacturer offers this part in raw metal only, with no powder coat. That is deliberate: corner guards are usually painted body colour or bed-lined. A raw part must be protected against corrosion before or immediately after installation - otherwise it will start to rust within weeks.

The manufacturer also reminds: test fit before painting. It does not cover the cost of finishing a part that then does not fit.

Role in the system: the guards can run alone, but are most often bought together with quick-release rear flares (1 1/2", 4", 6" or 8"), for which they are the mounting base.

Homologation: this product carries no European type approval. Road legality after installation is decided by the vehicle inspection station; check before buying if in doubt.

Installation

Easy but time consuming - the manufacturer quotes 4-6 hours. Drilling into the body is required.

A note on vehicle age

TJs and LJs are now twenty to nearly thirty years old. Expect seized bolts and corroded frame threads when removing factory parts - soak the joints in penetrant beforehand and use anti-seize on reassembly. Several reviews of TJ parts are really about this rather than about the part.
