Extended Corner Guards, Pair - Jeep TJ Wrangler

Steel armour for the rear body corners. They do two jobs at once: protecting the most exposed part of the body and serving as the mounting base for quick-release rear flares.

The aluminum version of the extended guards - about half the steel weight. Aluminum does not rust, which matters on a part that lives in mud and salt.

Finish - important

The part is supplied raw, with no coating. Aluminum needs no corrosion protection, but it can be painted or bed-lined. Test fit before painting.

Role in the system: the guards can run alone, but are most often bought together with quick-release rear flares (1 1/2", 4", 6" or 8"), for which they are the mounting base.

Homologation: this product carries no European type approval. Road legality after installation is decided by the vehicle inspection station; check before buying if in doubt.

Installation

Easy but time consuming - the manufacturer quotes 4-6 hours. Drilling into the body is required.

A note on vehicle age

TJs and LJs are now twenty to nearly thirty years old. Expect seized bolts and corroded frame threads when removing factory parts - soak the joints in penetrant beforehand and use anti-seize on reassembly. Several reviews of TJ parts are really about this rather than about the part.
