A pickup's fuel tank is the largest flat surface under the truck and the hardest thing to fix in the field. One stump, or the edge of a concrete culvert on the way down an embankment, is enough to split the tank and leave a full load of diesel on the road.

4.0 mm aluminium. Rival specifies 4.0 mm aluminium in silver. The plate covers the bottom of the tank.

Installation. A fitting kit is included.

Fitment. Toyota Hilux 2005-2011 and 2011-2015. The catalogue name lists the 2.7 l petrol plus 2.5 l and 3.0 l diesel engines; Rival's technical description refers to the Hilux Vigo 2.5 built between 2007 and 2015.

The tank plate is usually the last one people buy, after the front pieces — which is a shame, because it protects the one component whose failure ends a trip on the spot.
