The Discovery I has one of the most recognisable faces in the history of 4x4s, and covering it with a bumper-top bar is a shame. At the same time, the lighting this car left the factory with does not keep up with where it can still get to.

These ORAX Systems brackets solve that from the inside: they let you mount two LED lamps inside the original radiator grille. The parts are designed for this specific model, so they follow the factory grille rather than sitting on top of it. The result looks closer to a factory expedition build than to an add-on.

Which lamps

The brackets were prepared with the OSRAM Lightbar VX180-SP SR in mind, and the manufacturer also allows other LED lamps of similar dimensions and a similar mounting arrangement. If you already own a set, or have a different model in mind, compare its size and mounting method against the reference lamp before ordering — that is the only reliable way to avoid a surprise at the first test fit.

Construction

The parts are 3D printed in a black material resistant to UV and elevated temperature. It gets hot behind a grille and the grille itself takes full sun — those two things are what kill ordinary plastics. The black finish blends into the grille, so the brackets themselves stay unobtrusive once fitted.

Fitting

The set can be installed without cutting the grille. The manufacturer does note, though, that for the best fit it is worth cutting out the rear grille joint — without it the lamps may protrude slightly beyond the grille line. A full set of mounting bolts is supplied.
