Pneumatic rear differential lock for the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 250, Lexus GX and Tacoma from 2024 on. Suits the 8.15-inch, 12-bolt shim-adjusted ring gear with 30-spline shafts. Locks instantly at any speed and works as an open diff when switched off. Compressor required.
A modern Toyota copes surprisingly well – right up to the moment a rear wheel hangs over a ledge. The factory traction control then tries to brake the spinning wheel, but it does so with a delay and at the cost of momentum. On a steep climb, losing momentum ends the attempt.
The ARB Air Locker RD271 replaces the rear differential carrier in the axle with an 8.15-inch, 12-bolt, shim-adjusted ring gear. You engage it from a dash switch whenever you want – including on the move – and switch it off as soon as the obstacle is behind you.
Axle location Rear (RR) | Axle spline 30 (33 mm shaft) | Ratio All |
Per the ARB Air Locker application chart, RD271 suits the rear axle with an 8.15", 12-bolt, shim-adjusted ring gear:
Earlier Prado generations – 90, 120 and 150 – use different axles: an 8" 10-bolt from 1996 (RD132) and an 8.15" 12-bolt from 2009, covered by RD193. RD271 is not a substitute for those.
An air compressor is not included – the locker needs a compressed air source. If your vehicle does not have one yet, we will match a compressor to the locker.
Important on vehicles with the factory rear locker. ARB warns that on Prado 250 and Tacoma models fitted with the factory locker, the bearing on the differential case side is difficult to remove without damaging it. Order it beforehand as a spare – part number 9036650166, available through ARB or Toyota – so the job does not stall halfway.
Fitting means stripping the axle and re-setting the crown wheel and pinion: backlash and tooth contact pattern, plus running the air line to the axle and wiring the in-cab switch. This is work for a shop experienced with differentials.
We can do the installation – Szekla4x4.pl is an online shop, a walk-in store and a workshop specialising in off-road and overlanding. Get in touch and we will match a compressor and book the job.
Warranty: 5 years with no mileage limit, per ARB's warranty policy.
I already have the factory rear locker – why an Air Locker?
Factory electric lockers usually engage only at very low speed and take a moment to lock. An Air Locker locks instantly and at any speed. If your rear axle is already locked from the factory, the next logical step is a front Air Locker.
Does RD271 fit a Prado 150?
No. From 2009 the Prado 150 uses the 8.15" axle covered by RD193. RD271 applies only to 2024-on vehicles: the Prado 250, Lexus GX and the fourth-generation Tacoma.
Does it change how the vehicle drives on the road?
No, as long as it is switched off – unlocked it works as the factory open differential and the vehicle's electronic systems operate normally.
Do I need a compressor?
Yes. The locker runs on compressed air; the compressor is bought separately and will also air your tyres back up.
