OME OMEGS16 greasable shackles - Mitsubishi L200 / Pajero Sport

Old Man Emu greasable shackles are the part most people forget when they order a suspension kit, and the one that decides how long that kit keeps working properly. Factory shackles run their bushes dry: after a few thousand kilometres of off-road work, water and sand they start to squeak, develop play and change the geometry of the rear end. The OME kit adds grease nipples so the shackle bushes can be serviced at every scheduled service.

Key features

  • Grease nipples in the shackle body – bushes can be greased without dismantling the suspension
  • Part of the Old Man Emu leaf-spring system, engineered alongside OME springs and shocks
  • Recommended whenever leaf springs are replaced – worn shackle bushes spoil the effect of new springs
  • Regular greasing removes squeaks and reduces wear of the bushes and pins

Installation notes

Shackles are replaced together with the leaf springs, with the vehicle raised and supported and the spring unloaded. After fitting, pump grease into the bushes through the nipples and repeat it at every service – and immediately after driving through water or mud. Torque figures and the fitting sequence are given in the Old Man Emu instructions supplied with the kit.

Frequently asked questions

Are shackles mandatory when buying new leaf springs?

In its suspension application chart Old Man Emu marks them as mandatory for some vehicles and optional for others. The status for this part number is given above, in the fitment section.

How often should the bushes be greased?

At every service, and additionally after driving through water, mud or sand. It takes a few strokes of a grease gun per shackle.

Will the kit work with another brand of leaf spring?

The shackles are designed around Old Man Emu spring geometry. With springs from another maker fitment has to be checked individually – send us the model and year.
