Old Man Emu air bags for parabolic leaf springs are not an accessory to the suspension but part of it – with a parabolic spring the manufacturer requires them. The idea is simple: the spring handles the permanent, everyday weight of the vehicle, and the bags handle the variable weight you add for a particular trip. The new design with an internal hydraulic bump stop lets you drive with the bag empty and inflate it only when you are actually carrying something.

Fitment

The importer lists this kit specifically for the PB004R, PB005R and PB006R parabolic leaf springs, that is for the Toyota Hilux from 2015 (and, in the Old Man Emu chart, the Rogue / GR versions from 2023). The Old Man Emu suspension application chart describes this part number as an air bag kit that is mandatory with parabolic leaf springs.

The mounting brackets supplied are matched to a specific vehicle, so the kit cannot be moved between models. For other vehicles Old Man Emu provides dedicated air bag kits – we will confirm the choice from the model, year and spring part number.

Installation notes

The kit is fitted together with the parabolic leaf springs, with the vehicle on a hoist and the axle supported. Route the air lines away from heat sources – an exhaust heat shield is included. Pressure is set for the current load: empty means 0 psi, the maximum is 45 psi. If you want to control pressure from the cab or from a phone, order the ARB LINX controller as well.
