Tailgate Vent Cover — Jeep Wrangler JK 2007-2017

Take the spare wheel off a JK tailgate, or move it onto a rack, and you are left with a bare air vent and four empty carrier mounting points. This cover deals with both: it shields the vent from mud and stones, and keeps the tailgate from looking half-finished.

The supplier states an aluminium cover, painted black, fitted in the spare wheel position, for the Jeep Wrangler JK from 2007-2017.

Key features

• Aluminium rather than steel — no added weight on the tailgate and no rust
• Shields the tailgate air vent from mud and stones
• In the photo: a US flag motif cut through the plate — the stars and stripes leave the airflow open
• In the photo: eight mounting holes spaced around the perimeter of the plate

Technical data

• Application per supplier: Jeep Wrangler JK 2007-2017
• Material: aluminium

Fitting and notes

The cover uses the spare wheel carrier points, so it only makes sense once the wheel has come off the tailgate. In the photo the plate is bolted down in eight places — the supplier does not say whether those bolts are included, so assume you source them yourself.

The supplier gives no dimensions and no plate thickness. If you are fitting this to a tailgate that has already been modified, ask us for the measurements first.

Frequently asked questions

Are the bolts included?

The supplier does not say. Order on the assumption that you get the cover only.

Does the cover seal the vent completely?

No. In the photo the flag pattern is cut right through, so air passes through the stars and stripes.

Will it fit a JL?

The supplier lists the JK from 2007-2017 only. There is no declared application for the JL.
