APEX R.I.V. Rapid Inflation Valves STD - set of 5
A set of five APEX R.I.V. fast inflation valves in STD length — four wheels and the spare, with the R.I.V. chuck included. The valves fit dual valve-stem wheels only. Measure the valve counterbore in your wheel before ordering: it decides whether the STD or the XL length is the right one.
APEX R.I.V. Rapid Inflation Valves STD - set of 5
Airing up after a trail is usually the longest part of the day, especially on 37 inch tyres and bigger.
The R.I.V. removes the bottleneck where it actually sits: in the valve itself. Air loses no pressure across it, so the compressor delivers what it really has.
SET 5 valves, STD length | INFLATION TIME Under 10 s at 120 PSI and 10 CFM | REQUIREMENT Dual valve-stem wheels |
Key benefits
- With the regulator set the compressor shuts off by itself at the target pressure; inflation time rises by 10-20%, but you are not standing over the wheel with a gauge.
- On an on-board system a hose with 0.188 inch inside diameter is enough; on shop air the minimum is 0.250 inch.
What is in the kit
- 5 x APEX R.I.V. valve in STD length
- R.I.V. chuck that screws into the valve

Technical data
- Manufacturer part number: X02-02-011
- Intended for: dual valve-stem wheels only
- Connection thread: female 1/4-18 NPT
- Pressure drop across the valve: negligible — the compressor has an easier time, runs cooler and lasts longer
- Inflation time: under 10 seconds per 37-39" tyre on a 120 PSI, 10 CFM shop compressor; on on-board air it depends on compressor output and pressure
- Status: patent pending
Who it is for
This set is for anyone carrying a full-size spare on the same tyre as the rest and wanting it set up the same way — no hunting for an adapter when the spare goes on.
Installation: measuring, torque and hose
Measuring the counterbore. Measure the valve counterbore in your wheel before you order. The STD version fits where the counterbore is 0.500 inch or less, or 0.600 inch with the seal flipped. Above that the XL version is the right one, with a limit of 0.900 inch. This is the measurement that decides whether the valve goes in at all.
Torque. Tighten the valve to 18 in-lbs on a 14 mm hex. The cap goes on finger tight only — no spanner on the cap.
Hose. You connect the R.I.V. chuck to a hose with a hose barb sized to your hose — the manufacturer does not include one, and 1/4 and 3/8 are the common sizes.
Fit and cleaning. AEV wheels with their particular style of valve protector are ruled out by the manufacturer. The manufacturer also prohibits cleaning with acids.
Frequently asked questions
How does the R.I.V. differ from the RPV?
The R.I.V. is a fast inflation valve, the RPV a fast deflation valve. Two different products for two different jobs.
Will the R.I.V. chuck work on standard Schrader valves?
No. The R.I.V. Screw On Air Chuck screws into an R.I.V. valve and is meant for that valve only; standard Schrader stems stay on your existing kit.
The valve weeps a little air — what now?
For a small leak at the check valve the manufacturer suggests wiggling it in and out several times with a small Allen wrench to clear the dirt.
