Snorkels
Safari R-Spec Snorkel SS5019R - Toyota Hilux Revo 2015+ wide body
The Hilux Revo draws air from inside the engine bay, low above the road - exactly the height where dust hangs and water surges during a crossing. The Safari R-Spec SS5019R snorkel lifts the intake to roof height on the right-hand side and feeds the factory airbox directly. This is the wide body variant; Safari uses a separate number for narrow guards. Fits the 2.4 and 2.8 D-4D engines.
Safari R-Spec Snorkel SS5019R - Toyota Hilux (Revo) from 10/2015, wide body
The current Hilux takes its air from inside the engine bay, a few dozen centimetres above the ground - exactly the height where dust hangs and water surges at a crossing. One badly judged entry into a river means a soaked filter at best and a hydraulically locked 1GD at worst.
SS5019R is the R-Spec variant: a UV-stabilised polyethylene body, large-section ducting and a direct connection to the factory air cleaner housing. This version is made for wide body vehicles - the ones with wide guard panels.
Vehicle Toyota Hilux 126 (Revo), from 10/2015 | Engines 2.8 1GD-FTV and 2.4 2GD-FTV D-4D | Mounting side Right-hand side |
Key features
- Intake at roof height, above the dust cloud trailing the vehicle in front of you.
- UV-stabilised cross-linked polyethylene body - it cannot corrode and will not go brittle in the sun.
- Large-section ducting that supplies air in excess of the engine's requirement.
- Built around sealing, which in practice means dust cannot bypass the filter through loose joints.
- Works with the factory air cleaner housing, so you keep the original element and service routine.
- Guard panel cutting template supplied.
Fitment
Toyota Hilux 126 Series (Revo) built from 10/2015, wide body versions with wide guard panels. The installation guide for the V-Spec equivalent of the same geometry covers the 2.8 D-4D 1GD-FTV, the 2.4 D-4D 2GD-FTV and the 4.0 V6 1GR-FE petrol. The snorkel mounts on the right-hand side of the body. For narrow guard vehicles Safari uses a separate part number (SS5021R). On versions with factory wheel arch flares - GR Sport, Invincible, Rogue, Rugged X - the OEM flare must be modified; the Polish importer allows about an extra hour of labour for that.

Fitting and notes
Fitting requires cutting an opening in the right-hand guard panel to the supplied template and drilling mounting points in the guard and the A-pillar. There is no welding and no electrical work, but the cut is permanent, so the edges must be treated against corrosion straight away. On GR Sport, Invincible, Rogue and Rugged X versions the factory wheel arch flare runs across the mounting point and has to be reworked - allow an extra hour. We can do the whole job in our workshop, including sealing and an intake check afterwards.
Frequently asked questions
Can I wade deeper once the snorkel is fitted?
No. A snorkel protects the air intake and nothing else. Water can still enter through axle and gearbox breathers, seals, the alternator, electrical connectors or control units. Toyota's stated wading depth does not change.
How do I know whether mine is wide body or narrow body?
Wide body means the wide guard panels found on most double-cab 4x4 versions; narrow body is the slim arch typical of work-spec models. If you are unsure, send us a photo of the right front arch or your VIN and we will check before shipping.
Does the guard panel have to be cut?
Yes, an opening in the right-hand guard and mounting holes are required. The template is included.
Does it fit the GR Sport?
Yes, but the factory arch flare runs across the mounting point and must be modified. The same applies to Invincible, Rogue and Rugged X versions. The manufacturer requires the flare modification; the importer allows about an extra hour of work.
Can I add a cyclonic pre-cleaner?
Yes, a cyclonic pre-cleaner can be mounted on the head. In convoy on gravel it noticeably extends the life of the filter element.
Does the snorkel change the engine's air supply?
The system supplies air in excess of the standard engine's requirement and works with the original airbox. It is a protective solution, not a performance one - do not expect extra power.
Why it is worth it
- It protects the most expensive part of the vehicle on a trip - the engine - for a fraction of what a repair costs.
- Less dust on the filter element means calmer servicing and less turbo wear.
- A variant made for your body style and engine, so nothing has to be improvised.
Send us your VIN and we will confirm the body version and offer a fitting date.
