The Discovery I is one of the few vehicles where added lighting does not have to look added — the grille is open and flat, so a compact LED bar drops into it almost like a factory part. The awkward bit is sourcing: the lamp from one place, the bracket from another, bolts out of a box left over from something else, and then an hour of test-fitting on the driveway.
Here it already adds up: two OSRAM Lightbar VX180-SP SR lamps, dedicated brackets for the original Discovery I grille and a full set of bolts. Szekla4x4.pl is an authorised OSRAM dealer, so the lamps in this kit are genuine OSRAM product.
What the VX180-SP SR does
It is a compact single-row LED driving lamp. Each one is rated 19 W and 1,400 lm, with a light reach at 1 lx quoted at 320 m. The 6000 K colour temperature gives clean white light, closer to daylight than a halogen's yellow beam, which makes it easier to pick out shapes off to the side of your line.
- single lamp dimensions 192 × 67 × 35 mm, weight 550 g — small enough to sit within the grille line
- 13.2 V measuring voltage, open wire lead
- IP6K8 and IP6K9K ingress protection
- ECE R10 and ECE R149 approvals, approval mark E9, ECE reference number 25
- OSRAM product code: LEDDL122-SP SR
The brackets
The mounts are 3D printed in a material resistant to UV and elevated temperature — the two things that genuinely load anything living in front of a radiator. The design holds both lamps on one line and lets them settle into the grille instead of standing proud of it.
Fitting — no cutting, with one caveat
The kit can be installed without cutting any part of the grille, which is unusual for this type of solution. If you want the lamps to sit perfectly flush, the manufacturer recommends cutting away the rear grille joint. Skip that and the lamps may protrude slightly. You can make the call after a test fit on the car.
In the box
- 2 x OSRAM Lightbar VX180-SP SR LED lamps
- dedicated brackets for the Land Rover Discovery I grille
- complete set of mounting bolts
Who it is for
For Discovery I owners who want real light on the road ahead without spoiling a classic shape with a bumper bar or a rack above the windscreen. The effect runs the other way: the front looks more purposeful and still belongs to the rest of the car.
