A front shock absorber from the Old Man Emu BP-51 line, part number BP5160040, for the Nissan Patrol GQ Y60 and GU Y61 in the long version. A 51 mm 6061 aluminium body with a type III hard anodised finish, a remote reservoir and independent external rebound and compression adjustment set on the vehicle.

OME BP-51 front shock absorber BP5160040

An ordinary shock has one damping setting for life – a compromise between an empty vehicle on tarmac and a loaded one on gravel. The BP-51 removes that compromise: rebound and compression adjust independently, externally, with the shock still on the car. Add a 51 mm 6061 aluminium body and a remote oil reservoir – more oil and lower operating temperature over a long, broken surface.

Key features

  • A 51 mm bore body in 6061 aluminium with a type III hard anodised finish – better heat dissipation and corrosion resistance
  • A remote reservoir in 6061 aluminium – more oil volume and therefore lower operating temperatures
  • Independent external rebound and compression adjustment – set on the vehicle, without removing the shock
  • A hard chromed, ground piston shaft
  • A high temperature Dash 6 Teflon hose with high flow fittings
  • Large Teflon lined spherical bearings
  • Oversized rubber bushings

Fitment

The shock is intended for the front axle of the Nissan Patrol GQ Y60 and GU Y61, in the long version.

A note on generation names: GQ is Y60 (1988–1997) and GU is Y61 (from 1997). Catalogues and price lists often mix the two up – it is worth confirming the generation by VIN before ordering.

Installation notes

Fitting BP-51 shocks to a Patrol requires a separate fitting kit – a different one for the front axle and for the rear. It is not part of the shock.

Damping is set after fitting, to the vehicle’s actual load. We fit and make the first setting in our own workshop.

Frequently asked questions

Is the shock sold in pairs?

This catalogue item is a single shock. Suspension work is normally done on both sides of an axle – get in touch and we will make up the set.

Is a fitting kit included?

No. The front and rear axles use separate fitting kits, bought separately.

What does the BP-51 adjustment do?

Rebound and compression are adjusted independently, externally, with the shock fitted to the vehicle.

Putting a BP-51 setup on a Patrol? Get in touch – we will match the shocks, springs and fitting kits to what your vehicle actually weighs, then fit and set it up in our workshop.
