Roof Space 2 rooftop tent

A hard-shell tent opens fast but gives you a narrow bed. A fold-out tent gives you a wide bed but fifteen minutes of work and a fabric bag on the roof. The Roof Space 2 does both: the aluminium shell opens on gas struts in under two minutes, and the sleeping area extends past the case the way a fold-out tent does.

Closed, it is a flat 24 cm aluminium case — the car is quieter and uses less fuel than with a tent in a canvas bag up there. In panorama mode the front wall rolls up and the tent becomes a terrace above the roof.

Who it is for

A couple that goes out often and briefly: a weekend in the mountains, a night by the lake, three days on the road. With a two-minute setup you stop weighing up whether it is worth pitching camp for a single night.

The 205 × 135 cm mattress takes two adults, or two adults with a child or a dog. The tent goes on most cars with roof bars, from an estate to an SUV or a van; the one hard condition is a dynamic roof load of 75 kg.

Fitting and notes

The tent clamps to the roof bars — four clamps are included. Your dynamic roof load is in the vehicle handbook; it is the figure for driving, not for standing still, and it must not be exceeded.

How long does it take to open, and can I do it alone?

The manufacturer states under two minutes and a one-person setup. The gas struts guide the shell, so it does not have to be lifted by force.

Which cars can carry the Roof Space 2?

Any car with roof bars and a dynamic roof load of at least 75 kg. The figure is in your vehicle handbook — small hatchbacks through to SUVs and vans.

Can the bedding stay inside when it is closed?

Yes, 4.5 cm of space is left when the tent is folded, which takes a sleeping bag and a pillow.

Are there annexes and accessories for it?

Yes. The Light Base and Family Base annexes, the Light Awning, the panoramic mosquito net, the thermal inner tent, frame hooks, the hammock and the hanging chair all fit the Roof Space 2 and are in our shop.
