Roof Space 4 rooftop tent

A family in a rooftop tent usually ends up split: two people up top and two below in a second tent. The Roof Space 4 solves it differently — 205 × 200 cm of sleeping area, wider than a double bed, with the same two-minute gas-strut setup as the smaller model.

Closed it is a 24 cm aluminium shell, 221 cm long. In panorama mode the whole front wall goes up, and 130 cm of headroom lets an adult sit upright inside.

Who it is for

A family with children, or two couples travelling together. A 250 × 215 cm interior with 130 cm of headroom is somewhere to sit out the rain, not only to sleep.

The car needs a dynamic roof load of at least 100 kg and, per the manufacturer, three crossbars — in practice larger SUVs, pickups with a canopy, vans and estates with a strong rack.

Fitting and notes

The tent clamps to the roof bars with four clamps. Check the dynamic roof load in your handbook — with 90 kg of tent alone, this is not a figure to estimate.

Frequently asked questions

How is it different from the Roof Space 2?

Mainly width: a 250 × 215 cm interior and a 205 × 200 cm mattress instead of 205 × 135 cm. The RS4 weighs 90 kg instead of 67 kg, is 221 cm long when closed and needs a 100 kg roof.

How many people actually sleep in it?

The manufacturer states four. The 205 × 200 cm mattress is wider than a typical double bed.

How many crossbars do I need?

The manufacturer recommends three crossbars matched to your vehicle.

Do Roof Space 2 accessories fit it?

Partly. The Light Base and Family Base annexes, the awning and the mosquito net have separate RS4 versions. The frame hooks, hammock, hanging chair, shoe bag and locking nuts are shared between both tents.
